Traffic is everyone’s pet peeve, but have you ever got so tired of it that you decided to build your own helicopter?
Everybody hates getting stuck in traffic. So much so, we often end up wishing we had a private chopper to quickly transport us to our destination. This was the thought that drove this man, fed up by traffic in Indonesia, to build a helicopter from scratch.
You read that right, he built an entire helicopter from scratch.
Jujun Junaedi spent his free time, in his backyard, looking at videos for his project while dreaming of flying above the roads of Indonesia.
The 42-year-old said that the city he lives in which is 110 kilometres south of Jakarta, has really bad traffic. “It’s so incredibly frustrating. You run out of petrol and it’s a waste of time. You end up being totally exasperated by the time you get to where you’re going,” he told AFP.
Talking about his project, Junaedi said that he has spent close to 30 million rupiahs ($2,100) since he started building the plane 18 months ago. Junaedi’s young son and his neighbour have both been roped in to help build the 26-foot-long, petrol-powered chopper which has yet to take its maiden flight.
“Once my helicopter takes off I’ll be satisfied,” he said.
Bravery and invention fly high.
And as brilliant as his attempt is, he’s not the first person to build a helicopter or a plane. A popcorn seller in Pakistan came really close to fulfilling his dream of becoming a pilot. On March 31, the police stopped Muhammad Fayaz from performing an unauthorized take-off and confiscated the plane from him, Efe news reported.
The 30-year-old had dreamt of flying an airplane since he was in school. However, he had to drop out before he could finish his senior year due to financial reasons.
“Whenever I looked up to watch planes overhead, I longed to fly one myself. And then I thought I should use the creativity that God has bestowed on me to build my own plane and fly it,” Fayaz told Efe news.
You have to admit, these are some extremely brave and creative individuals!
